Autumnal Reflections

Autumnal Reflections

Having had a spectacularly unsuccessful fishing season so far – with a bit more to come admittedly, but let’s be realistic - I feel we have landed the second best thing, in our glorious new Fishing Napkins.  Our excellent friend and neighbour Biddy from Monogrammed Presents stitches them for us to Isobel’s designs, and they are selling as fast as she can make them.  All of which keeps reminding me that at the heart of what we do is our Britishness.  Keeping it small, keeping it as local as we can, keeping it true.  And that in turn of course makes me think of home, and family - and probably never more than at this time of year, as it gets cooler and windier and hopefully wetter, and we all have an excuse to stop at the end of the day.  (We shouldn’t need one of course, but I bet most of us do.)  We aren’t quite at the point of lighting the fire in the evening, but it’s coming, and I can’t wait.  I’m not sure if it’s being a December baby, or because I’ve spent a lot of time on the west coast of Scotland, but I love the blowy, colder, wetter days.  Summer to me feels threatening and hostile.  Autumn and winter are the very best seasons, and spring is pretty lovely, but summer I can take or leave.  On which note, I must go and get the washing in before it blows to Russia.  It’s seriously windy in Lincolnshire today – deep autumn, here we come!
