Here in sunny Argyll there is most definitely a change in the air. The sun is still lovely and warm but the air is decidedly cooler than it was even a fortnight ago. As I let the dogs out this morning I mistook the dew on the grass for the first frost – we’re nowhere near that yet, but it must have been in the back of my mind that the time is coming. It’s a slicingly clear day here, and the edges of the hills over the water are razor sharp. Autumn is most definitely on its way - and so, of course, our thoughts turn to … pumpkins! Yes folks, our gorgeous, fat little felt Pumpkins are back, and Isobel has been very busy handpainting them onto dinner candles. And cute little spotty red Toadstools too, any and all of which look gorgeous lined down the middle of the kitchen table in the ancient brass candlesticks from my mother’s house. Our new autumnal wreaths are up on the website now, glorious riots of orangey faux sunflowers and pumpkins guaranteed to brighten the mistiest day - we have our American friends to thank for encouraging the idea of door decorating beyond just Christmas – and maybe, just maybe, the very best of everything are the bewitching Bats and Mice! Oh be still my beating heart: take a look. I challenge you to resist!
