The leaves are falling at L&F HQ, and nothing makes us feel more autumnal. Except perhaps our divine little felt pumpkins, which we’re doing again this year in homage to our own homegrown offerings: if you could only see the size of the pumpkins here! Glorious and huge and golden they’re a real testament to my ‘healthy neglect’ policy. I’ve ignored them almost entirely since they went in the ground – granted, pretty much nothing has needed watering this year but we haven’t fed them, or turned them or really done anything at all to them. For years we have had pumpkin carving as a family staple activity (nay, competition) and although we’re a bit far out of the village for anyone other than us to see them much, we still light the candles and leave them gleaming on the windowsill over looking the back door. As the children grew up the carving became less amateur and a lot scarier, and I became better at drying the seeds in the Aga (delicious, btw) and using the pulp in all sorts of (sometimes) delicious ways. And inspired anew by all those seasonal cooking smells, we’re reissuing our delicious Pumpkin scented double wick candle. Cinnamon-y without being too sweet, it burns with a soft yellowy flame and will round off your seasonal table with the promise of festivities to come. It really doesn’t come much more seasonal and evocative.
