Well, it has been an epically wet month in Argyll. We and the land are truly and biblically, spectacularly sodden – from where we are, right on the edge of a sea loch, you see the next belt of rain coming in and it never fails to impress. The ‘wow’ factor is undeniable but the gloomy skies get a bit wearing after a while, and the idea that this is the height of summer is almost laughable. It has made me think seriously about L&F umbrellas. What do you reckon? No good up here of course because with real rain we very often get somewhat bracing breezes, and with the best will in the world an inside out umbrella is of no use to anyone, however pretty the designs on it. But down in the definitely tamer south …. hmmmm. And speaking of the south, our thoughts are now turning to the inaugural Humby Hall Late Summer Fair here at L&F HQ on 8 September. It’s in aid of the Notts/Lincs Air Ambulance service and The M Word, which is a local charity providing mental health support to fill in some of the gaps in the NHS provision. We have 15 trade stalls, a bevy of ‘interesting’ cars to admire, Pimms, cream teas, live music, pick-your-own orchard fruit – it’s going to be a quintessentially British afternoon of gentle entertainment, whatever the flipping weather. Come along if you can – and whether you make it or not, wish us luck!
