Well, that says it all really. We’re bonkers for conkers here – we’re lucky enough to have two enormous horse chestnut trees at the front gate, and walkers and riders alike keep a beady eye on them year round, it seems. Only this morning a lovely lady asked me, from on top of some huge beast with itchy feet and a Funny Look in it’s eye, if she could hop down and help herself. ‘Please do’ I said, nervously ‘So long as you don’t ask me to hold your horse.’ She thought I was joking. For years we have collected, counted, swapped, exhibited, pickled, pierced and strung the things, only then to take wild and inexpert swings - and miss. Now life is more complicated: we have to stop Callie, the L&F lurcher puppy eating them. Watch this space ….
