Well, what a torrid time we all seem to be having. Bizarre weather, Wimbledon drawing to a close, the little matter of a footie match tomorrow I gather – oh, and there was an election a couple of weeks ago, don’t forget. Whether you’re happy or sad, triumphant or tragic, the answer is definitely to keep calm and carry on. And it’s in this spirit that we launched our Summer Sale last week, to the delight of many of you who have kept us extremely busy picking and packing – thank you, as ever. (Gary the Postie is a little less chuffed than us, but we keep him sweet with biscuits and so far, so good.) Your internet activity also makes my next job, of doing a full stocktake, a lot easier so please do crack on – spread the word, treat yourself to a little something extra, stock up the present drawer ... you know the drill. There’s something very satisfying about sorting and rationalising though, as the many millions who apparently spend hours a day on the internet watching people tidying and cleaning can confirm. To start with a disorganised mess and finish with everything where and as it should be is a great feeling, and much as I always whinge about doing it, the truth is I rather like it. ‘Order restored!’ my mother used to say. We’d all benefit from a bit of that.
